Columbia/Barnard Tango Club

Columbia/Barnard Tango Club

About

We hold weekly Argentine tango classes for beginners and more advanced dancers during the fall and spring semesters, as well as a weekly practice where students can work on their dance moves and socialize outside of the class setting.

Every Wednesday evening, we have a 1-hour intermediate/advanced class, followed by a 1-hour beginner class and a 2 hour practica.  The practica is a low-key practice session where attendees can work on their technique with the help of the instructors and other dancers, dance for fun, or just hang out and enjoy some cheese and strawberries.

Each semester, we have 12-13 classes, and we only accept new beginners during the first three classes (however, there will be a few "catch-up" classes outside of normal class time.  The intermediate class is open to anyone who has finished a beginner cycle or has equivalent experience, though beginners are welcome to stay and watch!

Classes are $10/class, or $100 for the remaining 13 classes of the semester for CU affiliates.

We meet in the Lerner building on the Columbia Morningside campus.

You don't need a partner (during the class, pairs are cycled) and you don't need to wear anything special in the beginning (eventually, shoes that pivot easily are recommended).  Ladies who would like to learn how to lead and guys who want to learn to follow are welcome!

We are very lucky to have Robin Thomas teaching with us! Robin is a very well-known tango dancer, teacher, and DJ, and he's been around the world to give tango workshops and performances. Learn more about Robin here: http://robinthomastango.com/index.html
